We
have devised a great way for committees to accomplish their
vital work and at the same time for new and more established
members to get to know one another, at All Committee Night,
which is held the fourth Tuesday of each month. We gather
at six for fellowship and an always-creative and fabulous
supper imaginitively prepared by our resident vegetarian chef,
David Messier. Then after a brief general "check-in,"
the committees break off for their individual meetings and
return after an hour or so to report.
This is a church where individiuals really can and do make
a difference -- to the manner in which we worship, to the
social justice programs we pursue, and to the recreational
and fellowship activities that are such an integral part of
our "family" life together.
Here is the way our committees are presently configured and
populated:
Membership:.
Chair, Margaret Hall. Recruits members and
helps integrate new members into Congregational life. Trains
and recruits Greeters. Board Liaison. Rexanna Lester.
Property: Chair Ardis Wood. Takes
care of the Church property, including building maintenance
and repair, building rental, opening and closing procedures,
cleaning, landscaping. Board Liaison, Jimmy Murphy
Publicity: Chair and Board Liason, Tom Jones.
Plans and carries out publicity for the Church.
Religious Education: Chair: Martha Weaver
Recruits teachers, sets curriculum and oversees education.
Board Liaison, Deborah Rouse.
Social Justice and Action: Co-Chairs: Diana
Churchill, Chris Ford. Connects Congregation to larger
community around issues of social justice: pubic forums, coordinates
Inner City Night Shelter project and other service projects.
Board Liaison: Chris Ford.
Worship: Chairs: Mary Ann Muller. Creates
Sunday morning worship services when Rev. Joan Schneider is
off-duty, works with Rev. Joan on worship. Recruits
chancel volunteers. Board Liaison, Kat Hamilton.
The Finance Committee: Co-Chairs: Jim Miller
and Dick Glover. This committee runs the Stewardship Campaign,
Fundraisers and oversees the Church budget. Will meet on all
committee night, starting June 2007. Board Liaison: John Iaderosa.
Hospitality: Committee coordinates hospitality
for many church and church-related functions.
Strategic Planning (ad hoc committee): This committee is charged
with the long-range planning (five years out) for the congregation
as we grow and accept new members and ease into our newly
renovated accommodations. Committee mission is currently under
review and update by the Board.
